Five Little Things

Five Little Things I loved the week of September 16, 2016.

Five little things I loved this week:

1. Neighbors with Green Thumbs

I’m almost embarrassed to tell you that we tried to grow tomatoes this year, because it was a complete and utter failure. Our plants did not thrive, they struggled, and even the fruit they produced were inedible. But we will try again next year. Thank goodness for neighbors with green thumbs who share their bounty with us! Aren’t these tomatoes gorgeous? I’ve been using them in:

Burrata with Heirloom Tomatoes
Roasted Eggplant, Tomato and Pesto Mini Naan
Fried Heirloom Tomatoes with Buttermilk Fried Oysters
Tomato Pepper Chicken Stew

2. Your Suggestions

I want to say a special thank you to Shaneze who commented on my Five Little Things from July 15th! After seeing the Adele cover I loved, she suggested I check out the One Direction cover of Little Things by Madilyn Bailey, and wow. So beautiful! Thanks, Shaneze!

3. Delicious Books

If you’re an avid reader, you will love David Leite’s interview on Splendid Table with Cara Nicoletti, author of Voracious, and how she cooked her way through dishes from her favorite novels. Some of my favorite moments from books – from childhood and beyond – are the ones with vivid food scenes, and I love the idea of cooking from books for supper clubs! Who remembers all the good food from Almanzo’s mother on Farmer Boy?

4. Serenades

This little thing comes from my daughter, who loved this charming performance from some members of the African Children’s Choir when they stopped by the Princess Fantasy Faire to visit princess Belle. They serenaded her with song and dance, and I bet they’ll leave you feeling happy!

5. Oh Toni, You’re So Fine

Remember Toni Basil, who brought you that ear worm, Mickey? I want to be just like her when I grow up. The woman can dance!

Hope your weekend is full of dance and laughter!
