Recharge with a Pineapple Smoothie Bowl!

Despite my best intentions, I fell off the wagon. What used to be simple routine – heading to the gym every day – got sideswiped by a demanding puppy, a terrible cough that kept me up at night for weeks (and with a voice that sounded like a tortured James Earl Jones), and travel to my slushy hometown for work, which made me rely more on Ricola than I would care to admit.

I’m finally feeling more myself, and finally getting back on the fitness wagon, which means, I’m craving my smoothie bowls again. Whether it’s an acai bowl or my beloved green smoothie bowl, the blender has been going non-stop.

Refresh and reenergize with this recipe for a Pineapple Smoothie Bowl! It's perfect for breakfast, after a workout, or anytime you want to recharge.(...)

What goes best with sushi? The perfect sake, of course! I explore 3 delicious pairings.

This post is the second in a two part series, where I explore the art of teppanyaki and sushi and sake pairings at Benihana.

There are two things that I love about living in this part of the world, or perhaps more specifically, two things I have learned to appreciate more since moving to the west coast. One is – and I’m sure this comes as no surprise – that the world of wine is at our fingertips. And over the years, I do feel as though I have learned so much, even if it probably means we have just scratched the surface.

The second is an appreciation for how fortunate we are to be close to the ocean’s bounty. Fresh seafood does not have to travel far, or vice versa.

So when I had the opportunity to explore the world of sushi and sake pairings, I couldn’t resist. And the truth is, I’ve been so focused on wine that I really haven’t had a chance to taste more sake and get to know it a little bit better. (...)

Hummus Battered Buffalo Cauliflower "Wings" - you can have your spice and eat it too!

If you were to ask me to pick the one game day food that is my ultimate weakness, I could answer in a split second. It’s the food that I found irresistible my freshman year of college, when I found that it could be delivered from the campus dining hall to my dorm room 24/7 – which meant that late night study sessions could instantly turn into something a little more fun with a quick phone call. It’s the dish I was eager to taste when I visited one of my best friends when she transferred schools a few hours away upstate, because, obviously, you should be able to find the best of the best in Buffalo, New York.

You guessed it.

Upend your traditional game day eats with new trends that will bowl your guests over! This post is brought to you in partnership with the National Pork Board.

Make it a bowl party on game day with Filipino Pork BBQ Bowl and Korean Meatball Noodle Bowl!

Football fever has descended on the nation, and especially here in San Francisco, where preparations are being made to host the Big Game in just a couple of weeks. There are already talks of road closures and traffic detours, and it’s not just for one day – the next two weeks, commuters and tourists are realizing that it won’t be that simple to drive through the football frenzy for a little while! With events planned through the beginning of February, If you’re not going to be close to the action on the field, I think the best thing to do to celebrate the big game is by planning a party at home and focus on the FOOD!

Give your next big game party a delicious twist with Big Game Bowl recipes like Spicy Korean-style Pork Meatball Bowls and Filipino Pork BBQ Bowls!

Like any sport, entertaining takes practice, so in the name of the game, I hosted a pre-party for the Big Game to test two new recipes that’ll amp up your game-day menu. I’m shaking things up with pork in a fun collaboration with the National Pork Board with recipes that highlights two of my favorite Asian flavors: spicy Korean and Filipino (of course!) barbecue in a build your own bowl pre-bowl party!(...)

There's a reason why 7 Layer Bars are also called Magic Bars. They're the simplest treat you can make, and they'll disappear in seconds!

I suspect there was a lot of baking going on this weekend. Everywhere I turned, I saw images of white blankets of snow, hiding homes and burying cars, and leaving the streets empty to frolic for those who dared. I imagined all of you inside in your cozy kitchens, comfort food bubbling on the stove, and perhaps something sweet in the oven.

Am I right?

Out west, we may not have had snowmageddon, but rainmageddon has continued to pour, and with the fireplace on and umbrellas stowed, we have been keeping cozy in the kitchen, too. My oven – my whole kitchen, in fact – has been blasting at full speed, since I have been cooking like a madwoman for many days, preparing for a Big Game pre-party that I hosted yesterday (I’ll be sharing that with you next!). Kitchen prep checklists have been invading my dreams, and my husband was even sensitive to my timeline as we counted down to our party. “Are you on schedule?” he would ask every couple of hours.

Part of my party prep involved something sweet, of course, so I turned to an old favorite, a recipe that has been sitting in my binder, idle, for at least 10 years. 7 Layer Bars is an oldie-but-goodie, and just in case you haven’t made these treats, you’ll soon understand why they also have the appropriately named moniker “Magic Bars.”(...)

Achara (aka Atchara or Atsara) is a delicious Filipino Green Papaya relish - it goes so well with anything off the grill!

It’s no secret that I have a sweet tooth, but the truth is, as much as I will never say no to a fudgey brownie barely out of the oven or a decadent ice cream cake, the same can be said for my sour tooth. When it comes to candy, I was the kid who sucked on Warheads like they were peppermints, and Sour Patch Kids was child’s play. We have currently in our refrigerator at least 7 jars of pickles and relishes, and you should have seen my eyes bulge when my husband brought home a jar of pickled okra the other day.

So, I have a question for you.

Have you ever tried green papaya? If not, may I introduce you to Achara: Filipino Green Papaya Relish. You’ll want to put it on just about everything.

Ever try green papaya? You'll love it in Achara - it's a Filipino Green Papaya Relish!(...)

When homemade flaky goodness is this easy, you'll be tempted to make Cream Cheese and Green Onion Biscuits every day.

There are some foods that say, “I love you.” A perfect, hot cup of coffee, stirred just so, placed on the nightstand before your eyelids flutter. A freshly baked chocolate chip cookie, made with love, that bends as you lift it up off the baking sheet, chocolate melting onto your fingertips. A bowl of chicken noodle soup, each spoonful of thick noodle and rich broth reminding you that someone cares.

I’m going to add another one to the list: biscuits. Tender, flaky, creamy pillows of dough that rise in the oven, each warm bite buttery and perfect. You can taste each press of the hands on the dough, each turn of the mold as each round is cut, and the magic of flour and butter kissing to make something so comforting.
