Looking for more ways to enjoy rhubarb? Try it in this decadent Rhubarb Bread Pudding!

My dad was here for a short visit this past weekend. He watched as I pulled the bread pudding out of the oven and set it on the counter. “What kind is it?” he asked, peering over his glasses to get a better look.

“Rhubarb Bread Pudding, Dad,” I told him, not expecting him to even know what rhubarb was, since I don’t recall ever eating it growing up. “Ah! Rhubarb! Remember all the rhubarb in the garden?” he gushed.

Well, that threw me for a loop. “We grew rhubarb?” I was incredulous. Of all the things my mom grew in our little house in New York, I couldn’t recall any rhubarb in that garden. Maybe it was hidden behind the sweet peas and the asparagus?

I can't get enough of rhubarb when it's in season. Try it in this easy and delicious Rhubarb Bread Pudding.

Don't toss those carrot tops! Use them in this deliciously simple Halibut en Papillote with Carrot Top Pesto!

There’s a little bird that has nested in one of the Italian cypress trees that flanks one side of our driveway. She’s built the most perfect little home, a wonder in itself, and to my amazement, she is perched at my children’s eye level. Needless to say, they are delighted, and you can’t help but carefully peek every time you pass the little tree, to see if she is there.

But pretty soon, she will have company. She has been laying eggs! Tiny little eggs – which my kids compare to those speckled Easter robin’s egg candies. When she flies away, I carefully sneak a peek, and she has been laying one egg a day. So far, there are five little eggs, and I wonder how much more she will lay? I joke that we have enough for a little baby omelet, organic and locally sourced. But do not worry, the eggs are safe.

Have you ever made Carrot Top Pesto? Try it in a simple recipe for Halibut en Papillote with Carrot Top Pesto!

Think twice about tossing those carrot tops! They are delicious in this easy recipe for Halibut en Papillote with Carrot Top Pesto.(...)

Today I’m sharing My Signature Moments and the inspiration behind this delicious Skillet Pesto Flatbread with Goat Cheese, Artichokes and Roasted Butternut Squash that features the launch of the Safeway Signature family of brands, available exclusively at Safeway stores. This post is sponsored by Safeway.

Who says you need an oven? This Skillet Pesto Flatbread with Goat Cheese, Artichokes and Roasted Butternut Squash made on the stovetop will surprise you!

If you’re like me — constantly dreaming up delicious ideas, not to mention feeding a voracious family — it’s inevitable: going to the grocery store becomes a daily event. As much as I try to plan my meals for the week, half the time, popping into my local market is just part of the routine, whether it’s a shopping trip to load up on essentials or to pick up that one random item I need for a recipe.

Being at the market that often, you rely on navigating the store quickly and efficiently, and you learn to stick to brands you trust. Once I have a store mapped out in my head, I pride myself on being able to run in and out, lickety split. (Side note to store managers: pretty please stop rearranging the shelves! My sanity thanks you.)

I run to my neighborhood Safeway so often during the week that when I had the chance to spend some time with them a few weeks ago and get to know their Signature products better, I couldn’t resist! It was an opportunity to learn more about the launch of the Signature family of brands – did you know that there are over 4,000 items, ranging from coffee to juice, dried fruit to cereal, as well as prepared foods and even paper towels? I honestly had no idea. When you’re like me and running through the aisles, it’s easy to lose count.

The Hollywood Hills was the beautiful backdrop to learn more about Safeway Signature products.
Attendees gather to learn more about Safeway #MySignatureMoments.

Along with bloggers from all across the country, I spent a beautiful day in the Hollywood Hills a few weeks ago, and the morning was filled with all kinds of delicious inspiration from Chef Jeff Anderson, the Executive Chef of Albertsons Companies Culinary Kitchens and Technical Center. Chef Jeff shared countless tips for creating delicious meals using the ingredients in the Signature product line. From soups to marinades, it was a great reminder that tasty moments don’t have to equal hours in the kitchen when you can use Signature ingredients in a clever way.(...)

This simple recipe for Crab and Corn Chowder is dairy free but oh so creamy and comforting!

One of the ironies of the Filipino culture is how the concept of family is both highly revered and loosely defined. Growing up in a household where everyone is family, every eligible grown up is a Tita or Tito (aunt or uncle), regardless if we are truly related or not. Western labels like “second cousin twice removed,” are considered unnecessary details. Simply put, family is family.

Corn is one of the stars in this dairy free Crab and Corn Chowder.

Chocolate Banana Fig Bread - you won't be able to resist a slice!

With the return of rain came an insatiable urge to stay indoors and bake. That, coupled with the fact that I was recovering from back to back trips in just this week alone, and all I wanted to do was spend the morning feeling the dust of flour on my hands. I wanted to crack eggs into a bowl and whisk them until the yolks disappeared into a frothy light yellow. No need for the electric mixer. This was about spending the morning quietly, with just my whisk and a spatula, and a sharp knife.

Dried figs add sweetness to a luscious loaf of Chocolate Banana Fig Bread!
