Five Little Things

Five Little Things I loved the week of January 13, 2017.

Five little things I loved this week:

1. Planning

This is the time of year I turn to pen and paper – I love my paper planners! In 2017, I actually have two, and one of them is the lovely Nourished Planner, co-founded by my friend Heidi of Foodie Crush. If you are still looking for a solid planner that is simple, elegant and helps keep track of essentials such as menu planning, then you’ve got to try it!

2. Filipino Comfort Food

As soon as we came home from our winter escapades in Utah (stay tuned! I can’t wait to share those adventures with you), I immediately turned to comfort food. The first things I made were my favorite noodles and arroz caldo, or as my kids lovingly call it, “sick soup.” It seems that this was a big week for Filipino food in the media, with Bloomberg touting it as the “next big thing…again”, the Thrillist covering NYC’s Maharlika, and Saveur sharing its growing library of Filipino dishes.

3. Connecting with Grandpa

I love how this grandpa has embraced instagram to share his talents and love with his grandchildren!

4. Love Jar

My friend Shahla at Treehouse Threads has a lovely idea for families celebrating Valentine’s Day! I want to adopt a love jar for my family.

When I was little, my mom would make such a big deal about Valentine's Day! It was a family celebration and she made sure we all knew how much she loved us. I have tried to do the same with my babes. Last year I was inspired by a friend to make a Love Jar (my friend does a yearlong gratitude jar). For our Love Jar we write down what we love on a heart every day and then stick it in a jar to read on Valentine's Day as a family. Asking your children to complete the sentence "I love…" Will make your heart swell and sometimes incite giggles (my son finishes it with Storm Troopers every night 🙄😂). Head on over and check out my blogpost with details on how to make your own #lovejar ❤️❤️❤️

5. Sisters to Sisters

If only our whole nation can find ways beyond political divides to find common threads, true caring and connection as Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush have with Malia and Sasha Obama!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
