Plate by Plate, a food + wine tasting benefit

If you are local or traveling to the Bay Area, and would like to support a wonderful cause in a delicious way, do consider the food + wine tasting benefit, Plate by Plate, to be held tonight, Friday September 16, at The Bently Reserve.

Plate by Plate will be featuring tastes from over 20 acclaimed chefs and restaurants, including notables such as Chaya Brasserie, Namu, Yank Sing, Tommy Toy’s, Yank Sing to name a few. Premiere wineries such as St. Supery, Gundlach Bundschu and Grgich Hills Estate will pour their signature wines. Guests can enjoy live entertainment and bid on an extensive silent auction featuring items such as a weekend road test with a Bentley or Jaguar, roundtrip airfare tickets by JetBlue, a private Benefit Cosmetics beauty party and much more.

Net proceeds will benefit the Oakland Asian Students Educational Services (OASES), an organization dedicated to serving low-income youth through education, mentorship and service. Project by Project has been working with OASES this past year by mobilizing PbP’s network of public, private and community resources to achieve their mission of providing K-6 children with leadership and enrichment programs.

1-2-Simple Cooking

When I first started cooking, I was doing it to feed my family of four. My mother’s passing transformed me into chief cook for my father and younger siblings. So when I moved away from home, I found myself cooking for one. Or perhaps me, plus one. In a teeny, tiny kitchen. Going from 4 to 1-2 was a unique challenge, but then again, maybe it wasn’t too unique, as my dear friend Joy Zhang of Joylicious is tackling just that in her newest endeavor.

Along with friends (and filmmakers) Tiffany Chung and Andrew Lee, Joy has been working hard at developing a new cooking show geared towards singles and couples.  Their goal is to encourage people to get back in the kitchen and equip them with the confidence and skills to become an efficient home chef.  The reality of smaller spaces and limited ingredients, limited budgets, and limited free time due to busy lives will become a distant memory for first time cooks who look to Joy for guidance.

Do check out 1-2 Simple Cooking’s Kickstarter page and please consider supporting Joy, Tiffany and Andrew reach their goal of $6000 to film and produce their pilot webisode. Any small amount will make a difference, and I know I sure would love the chance to see more of Joy’s glowing personality on the screen!
