How to Keep Crudités Fresh | One Quick Tip

Making a platter of crudités in advance? Here is One Quick Tip to prepare the vegetables in advance and how keep crudités fresh and crisp!

Various vegetables submerged in a glass bowl of ice water.

When I say crudités, does it strike you as fancy? Well, the truth is, a platter of assorted raw vegetables served as an hors d’oeuvre is something I try to make every weekend, and the guests are optional. It’s just a great way to make sure we have something healthy on hand to munch on!

Either way, I like to prepare the crudités in advance, which begs the question: how to keep crudités fresh? Well, here is one quick tip.

HOW TO KEEP CRUDITÉS FRESH

Keep sliced veggies in a bowl of cold water (an ice bath works, too) in the refrigerator and the crudités will stay crisp for hours, or until you are ready to serve. This works with vegetables such as carrots, celery and radishes, and keeps them nice and crisp. I would not do this with tomatoes or the like, but it does the trick for crunchy vegetables!

Vegetables stored this way stay fresh for at least a day in advance, but I would be sure to change the water if you do so. It’s also handy for prepping lunches on Sunday, and that way you have sliced veggies ready to go for the next day or two!
