“I think careful cooking is love, don’t you? The loveliest thing you can cook for someone who’s close to you is about as nice a valentine as you can give.” -Julia Child

Oh Julia. With her love of food and butter and good French wine, I couldn’t agree more. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and I wanted to send some love, from my kitchen to yours.

These gorgeous blooms were actually a beautiful surprise from our friends at Whole Foods, and I was reminded that each sale of their Whole Trade Roses benefit the farmers and workers directly, to help with housing, schooling and medical benefits. I am excited to give away a $50 Whole Foods Virtual Gift Card, just in time for you to buy some roses for your own sweetie, along with some treats or ingredients to round out your Valentine’s celebrations.

So, what do you have planned for your day of love?  My husband specifically requested that I make my Crab & Corn Chowder and Cheat’s Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse again. I am more than happy to oblige. Whatever you do, whether it is go out for a fancy dinner, stay in and cook a thoughtful meal, or simply give your loved one a longer hug, I wish you a very sweet Valentine’s Day. May each day be full of love.

I would love for you to win a $50 Whole Foods Virtual Gift Card to use for your Valentine’s celebrations! Since the holiday is tomorrow, this will be a quick and speedy giveaway!

Although I just posted a dish I personally love for Valentine’s Day, what I do for those I love is make a batch of my favorite sugar cookies and decorate them with cream cheese frosting and red sanding sugar. Easy, pretty and so good; I always think a handmade gift from the heart really speaks to those I love…or at least I hope so!

  7. Becky B

Homemade chocolate chip cookies. I’ll send my siblings some for holidays like my mom used to.

  8. Alexandra

I love to share the joy of cooking itself. My boyfriend and I enjoy the entire process: from picking a recipe and shopping at our local whole foods or farmers market to procure the brightest, freshest, and most beautiful ingredients, all the way to donning our aprons and then later enjoying the fruits of our labor together. Maybe we don’t love cleaning up, but we do that together too, so it’s never too much of a hassle.

  9. karissa

    i love to share a sushi plate! o o o yum

  10. Katie P

The best foods to share are those that are prepared with love. For me, it’s baked goods. And for Valentine’s Day, salted caramel, hazelnut and red velvet usually make an appearance.

I show my love to my boyfriend by trying to recreate dishes he grew up with in Thailand. He loves it of course, but it’s also a fun challenge for me!

I love to make homemade marshmallows (on the blog now) and coat them with melted chocolate, then I wrap them and give to family, friends, neighbors. Even without a giveaway, I’m sending you lots of love and happiness for Valentine’s and any day, Liren!
