Simple Dessert Charcuterie Board with fruit, cookies, cake, cheesecake, candied apples, and more!

As someone who loves to graze, I always say that my favorite way to eat (and entertain) is by hovering over spread of charcuterie and a selection of cheeses, wine in hand, with good friends and family. I know I’m not alone.

The concept of charcuterie and cheese boards has really exploded in the last several years. For me, my love of charcuterie is as strong as ever, and if anything, has gotten more elaborate over time.

I’ve made and shared my favorite Charcuterie Board and have also created a Halloween Snack Board and Pancake Breakfast Board. I love any excuse to make a board for any occasion, so naturally, a dessert board is a must!

However, I must address the obvious. The word charcuterie has been used very liberally in the world of charcuterie boards. Technically, the term charcuterie refers to the whole umbrella of meat products, from sausages and terrines to pates and confit. So, technically, the term “dessert charcuterie board” is not traditionally accurate. For the sake of colloquial conversation (and search engine optimization), we will let it pass, but ideally, “dessert board” is preferable.

How to Make a Dessert Board with Safeway

My neighborhood Safeway has been completely remodeled and upgraded with premium shopping experiences! It’s incredible – from the wine department and deli to the extensive butcher’s block and patisserie bakery, there’s so much to explore in every aisle! To celebrate the re-grand opening, my local Safeway threw an epic bash, and it was so fun to wander and taste my way throughout the store.

The new and improved patisserie is brimming with sweets, and I couldn’t wait to create a dessert board with the beautiful treats.

How to Make a Fruit and Dessert Board

The beauty of a fruit and dessert board is that there is something for everyone! If you’re entertaining, there’s no need to decide on one dessert to please the crowd – by offering a wide variety of sweet treats, dessert becomes even more exciting!

Cakes and Cookies

I like to start by anchoring my board with cakes and cookies. If you wish, you could set a theme for the board, such as a foundation of cheesecakes, pies, cakes, or donuts. For this particular board, I used individual cheesecakes and cheesecake slices as the foundation.

Dessert Bites

The possibilities are endless when it comes to adding dessert bites to your board. Consider artisanal chocolates, truffles, miniature mousse cups, and caramel corn! Balance out your selections when it comes to chocolate, fruit, creaminess, and crunch.

Fruit

Fresh fruit is a must for a dessert board! Add whatever is sweetest and is in season. Fresh berries are always a hit!

Caramel apples are one of my favorite treats, at any time of the year. Slice one up and fan it out on the board – this will disappear fast, I guarantee!

Dips and Frosting

Consider adding a dip to the board. I like to add a honeyed yogurt that can be drizzled over fresh fruit, but a chocolate ganache is also lovely, for both strawberry and banana bites, as well as pretzel sticks!

Savory Bites

While this may be a dessert board, it’s nice to include some savory options. Consider nuts, pretzel sticks, and popcorn!

Garnish

Garnishing your board is totally optional, but a lovely touch if you want to make it extra special. I like to garnish with fresh sprigs of mint or edible flowers.
