Holiday Tablescape Challenge: Understated Elegance

In just a few weeks, my house will be full. Four different flights will be carrying four of my most favorite people to spend Thanksgiving week at our home.

I can’t tell you the last time my brother, sister and I gathered at the same Thanksgiving table. It’s been dreadfully long. So you can imagine how excited I am to have every seat at the dining table occupied — my family will be joined by my sister, her husband, my brother and his fiancee.

There will be non-stop cooking: brunches and snacks, simple lunches and dinners that call for nostalgic dishes. And of course, there will be the very important Thanksgiving dinner. And I want to make my guests feel extra special by setting a beautiful table.

Wayfair is hosting a Holiday Tablescape Challenge right now, and I thought it would be the perfect time to get involved. With 5 holiday-ready items, I was able to create a tablescape that incorporates my everyday pieces to bring an understated elegance to the table…one that will let the food to shine, and allow us to linger all night long.

Wayfair Tablescape Challenge | Kitchen Confidante | Centerpiece

First things first. This holiday, I am forgoing the tablecloth. I decided that enough’s enough: who needs to bother with stain treating runners and tablecloths? Drips of gravy? Greasy turkey skin? A splash of wine? No need to worry, I’ll just wipe it right off the glass table.

Instead, I focused on the centerpiece. The silver lustre and raw edges of the David Shaw Silverware Urban Retreat Deconstructed Bowl are just stunning, so I wanted to showcase it, juxtaposed on a gold Ten Strawberry Street Lacquer 12″ Gold Square Charger Plate. By placing a pillar candle in the center, and tucking in faux berries, it took on an approachable elegance that set the tone for the rest of the table. I flanked it on either side with tall plum candles, and continued the inspiration of festive metallics combined with earthy tones.

The gold chargers picked up the detailing of my napkins, and I used the rest of my berry branches as napkin rings.

What I love most? This place setting is versatile enough for any holiday party, from Thanksgiving to Christmas to even New Years. If only I could have my family for all three celebrations!

Wayfair Tablescape Challenge | Kitchen Confidante | Platter

This generously sized Certified International Romanesque Oval Platter by Karidesign is ideal for a turkey, but for today, I filled it with miniature pumpkins.

I do think this would make a lovely centerpiece, as well!

The David Shaw Silverware Urban Retreat Rectangular Platter coordinates with the bowl I used for the centerpiece, and both are not just gorgeous, but food safe. This platter is perfect for breads, cakes, or appetizers. I also loved the Fleur-de-Lis Two Tier Plate Stand in Antique White from Mesa Home – just right for sweet treats and cheeses to end the meal!

With a table as inviting as this, who can resist lingering over plates of dessert and an extra glass of wine? As for the clean up? Well, I’m especially thankful that I will have extra hands around this Thanksgiving. Thank goodness!

A beautiful setting! My eyes locked onto those gorgeous napkins with the crocheted edges. Love to have those in my drawer! Made your arroz caldo last night and it was lovely. Nice and fast, easy and comforting all at once!
