How to Make a DIY Flat Christmas Tree (for Holiday Ornament Charcuterie Boards)
This DIY flat Christmas tree is made with dowels, pine sprigs, and floral wire. You can use fresh or artificial pine sprigs; I opted for artificial so I can use the tree year after year. It's the perfect backdrop to mini cheese board "ornaments" for a festive Christmas charcuterie board.
Take one dowel and trim it to 20 inches in length. Cut the remaining dowels into four pieces, measuring 8 inches, 12 inches, 16 inches, and 20 inches in length.
Using floral wire, attach the dowels to the 20-inch dowel crosswise, about 4 inches apart. Secure with floral tape for extra stability. Place the tree frame with the crosswise dowels on the table so it lays flat.
Starting with the crosswise dowels, use floral wire to attach pine sprigs; it helps to attach the sprigs in two places to secure the springs on the dowels. Use the same method to attach pine sprigs to the center vertical dowel. Keep the sprigs flat so that your cheeseboards or cocktail plate will be level when placed on top.Hot glue a few pine cones to the pine sprigs when it is filled in.
Make the Holiday Ornament Cheese Boards
If you have mini cheese boards, embellish them by tying a ribbon around the handle to look like a Christmas ornament. You can also use cocktail plates.
Notes
Tips on pine sprigs: when selecting pine sprigs, opt for leaves and branches that will lay flat if you use this tree as a backdrop for the mini ornament charcuterie boards.
