Five Little Things

Five Little Things I loved the week of June 19, 2026: tinned fish, the best sports fans, homemade In N Out, and more!

Five Little Things

I’m feeling a little celebratory today (see #1 below)! I plan to enjoy the weekend with plenty of time outdoors, savoring summer’s amazing fruits and veggies, and taking a break from cooking! As much as I love to cook and bake, I equally relish taking a break from the kitchen, because it gives me an excuse to explore new flavors and places to eat. I come back inspired and ready to experiment. I’m also gearing up for another visit to the East Coast soon, which means QT with my son and daughter!

Here are Five Little Things I loved this week:

1. Another Year Around the Sun

Today is my birthday! Another year around the sun, another year of good health, love, family, and friends. And another year of sharing my love for food with all of you. I feel truly blessed.

My daughter sent me a selection of tinned fish as an early gift. The packaging is absolutely darling, and I’m slowly tasting my way through the tins! So far, I’m very impressed. I love that tinned fish is enjoying a resurgence; it’s a wonderful way to add protein and Omega-3’s to your diet. I just shot a new recipe with the sardines, so keep an eye out for that!

2. Well Deserved Wins

This year’s James Beard Foundation winners included friends of the podcast Sarah Ahn and Helen Goh. I couldn’t be more excited for them both, and am so happy that their hard work and heartfelt cookbooks were recognized and rewarded. If you haven’t listened to their interviews, I hope you enjoy our conversations!

3. Best Kind of Sports Fans

We can all learn from the consideration of the Japanese soccer fans. The kindness and sense of social responsibility also extends to players, as we learned from their thoughtfulness in the locker room. Let’s leave the world better than we found it.

4. A CODA Proposal

When it comes to thoughtful proposals, stories like this one of a fiancé learning British sign language to ask parent permission is much more meaningful than any spectacular production.

5. “Out N In”

When you don’t have an In N Out close by, make your own! The commitment of @crazykoreancooking is unreal! Be sure to check out both parts 1 and 2!

Stay joyful!
