Five Little Things
Five Little Things I loved the week of May 8, 2026: comforting pho, Chonkers the sea lion, a chef daddy, and more!
Ah, another week come and gone. Our house (and my heart) was a little more full this week, with my son wrapping up another year at college and coming home! It’s so good to have him here before he heads off for another busy summer and all his adventures. If I can spoil him as much as possible, believe me, I will!
Here are Five Little Things I loved this week:
1. Baking old favorites
With my son home again, I found myself making some old favorites. The pile of ripe bananas were transformed into Buttermilk Banana Bread (a beloved family and reader favorite!). And after a week of being home and away from his school in the south, he was craving biscuits; I quickly whipped up my Cream Cheese and Green Onion Biscuits. Have you tried either of these yet?
2. Comfort Food
One of the first meals we had when my son came home was his favorite pho. For pho, I usually defer to the experts since we have an incredible spot in town that we love. But sometimes I make it at home — I love this Chicken Pho and if I have prime rib leftovers, then making Prime Rib Pho is a no-brainer!
3. Chonkers
You may have heard that here in the SF Bay, a certain sea lion has made a “massive” splash amongst locals and tourists. I have to admit, that I’m taken by Chonkers, too! And now they have a stuffed Chonkers plushie – proceeds benefit The Marine Mammal Center’s vital work protecting Steller sea lions and other marine mammals.
4. Met Gala
The theme of this year’s Met Gala, “Costume Art,” was fascinating to me. If you were confused by the fashion, or even don’t remotely care, I think that understanding the artistic references might change your mind.
I personally loved Heidi Klum’s costume, it was quite impressive.
5. When Your Dad is a Chef…
I wish I could embed this one! You’ll just have to click over and see how this lucky baby gets the most creative meals from his daddy chef.
