Red White and Blue Food

Bag of Que Pasa Liberty Chips for a Red White and Blue Picnic.

It wouldn’t be a picnic without the food, so why not pack something red white and blue that you can eat!? I was so excited to partner with Que Pasa to introduce you to their limited edition Liberty Chips! This delicious blend of organic red, white and blue corn tortilla chips will add a patriotic flare to your next picnic, and uses only organic, non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free ingredients. What makes them red, white and blue? Liberty Chips are made with organic blue corn, organic white corn, and they use organic beet juice to naturally dye the chips red! They’re made the traditional way, by grinding between volcanic stone! Plus, by crafting their chips in certified Zero Waste facilities, they are the perfect choice for an eco-friendly picnic!

Summer Berries

Leave it to mother nature to have the perfect accessory for a patriotic picnic! I always love adding raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries to the picnic basket for a healthy snack that is naturally festive! Or layer them in red, white and blue parfaits!

Drinks

You can add color naturally by making your own festive drinks! I love making a homemade blueberry ginger soda for a sparkling sip!

Reusable Glass Bottles

How to transport those sparkly drinks? In reusable glass bottles! You can bring big ones for the crowd, or even individual bottles for each person!

Paper Straws

It’s hard to resist all the red, white and blue decorations at the store, so I will splurge and add some cute paper straws. Reusable straws, of course, are ideal, but who can resist, and at least the paper will decompose, which is a better alternative to plastic.

Compostable Plates

Speaking of decomposing, I love using compostable bamboo plates, for any kind of entertaining, from barbecues to picnics. They’re sturdy enough to use as serving dishes, and after you’re done eating, it can go in the compost bin.

Reusable Utensils, Plates, Cups

Of course, whenever possible, use reusable utensils, plates, and cups. A little dishwashing when you get home never hurt anyone!

Finger Food

For the ultimate in saving the landfills, how about opting for finger foods? We have the best utensils already – two of them! – so why not pack foods you can eat with your hands? Just make sure you wash up before you eat!

Reusable Containers

When packing up food, opt for sealable, reusable containers. I love Weck jars and mason jars — they come in all shapes and sizes and are perfect for stacking in a basket.

Fabric Remnants and Bandanas

It’s tempting to buy cute, new picnic blankets, but to save money, I like to check out the fabric remnants at my local craft store. You might be able to find just the right size to layer on top of your picnic blanket to give it the perfect red white and blue touch! And even if you can’t find a remnant, buying two yards of fabric is much cheaper than buying a whole new blanket.

Also, reusable cloth napkins are great, but you can also use bandanas! It adds a cute touch of rustic chic, and is just as eco-friendly.

What a great post for July 4th inspiration! My cousins hosted a foreign exchange student from Chile when I was in high school (South Dakota), and the nickname “que pasa” evolved for me during that time. So, always fond memories for me whenever I see that phrase. :)
