On the podcast, I recently sat down with Steph Loaiza of Six Sisters’ Stuff. Along with her sisters, Steph founded Six Sisters’ Stuff in 2011 as a way to stay connected and share cherished family recipes. What began as a simple family blog quickly evolved into a go-to resource for families everywhere seeking to simplify dinner while still bringing everyone together around the table.

Over the years, Steph and her sisters have co-authored ten bestselling cookbooks, and their newest, 30-Minute Meals: 100+ Quick and Easy Meals the Whole Family Will Love, is their most practical yet. This book is filled with pantry-to-plate recipes that busy families will appreciate.

In this episode, we chat about how Six Sisters’ Stuff began as a family connection project, what it takes to create reliable, family-friendly recipes, and why quick meals can still be meaningful moments shared around the table.

How Did You Get Started?

In our family, food has always been a way to connect. Growing up, my mom made dinner every night, and Sundays were for baking. We’d pull out her old recipe cards and make cookies together. That’s probably where my love for cooking began.

I’m the fourth of six sisters, with twelve years between the oldest and youngest. Even with our busy schedules growing up, my mom always made sure we sat down for dinner together. But as we grew up, went to college, got married, and moved to different states, staying connected became harder. Back then, you had to pay for call minutes and texts, so we started a Blogspot blog as an affordable way for the family to keep in touch.

We shared everything like family updates and what we were reading and cooking. If someone was looking for Grandma’s classic recipes, we’d post them online for each other. Over time, people outside our family discovered the blog and started sharing our recipes all over the country. What began as a small family blog grew into Six Sisters’ Stuff, now celebrating 15 years and supported by an incredible team of women who help us run it today.

“It started out as just a way for our family to stay close, and now it provides for so many families across the country.”

Tell Us More About Your Book, 30-Minute Meals

Time was our biggest focus for the recipes in this book. We wanted to make sure every recipe could truly be made in 30 minutes, even if you’re trying it for the first time. We also turned to our audience to understand what they need most right now and developed the recipes to fit those needs. Everything in this book is quick, comforting, and family-friendly.

During the writing process, I was earning my master’s degree, so I really only had 30 minutes to make dinner myself! I learned to rely on time-saving tricks that we worked into the book, like keeping pantry staples ready to go, choosing the right cuts of meat, and leaning on pre-prepped or fast-cooking ingredients like rotisserie chicken or shrimp. Sometimes paying a little extra for convenience is worth it if it helps you get a meal on the table.

“The whole point of cooking quickly is so you can eat together. At the end of the day, the important part of the meal is the togetherness and connecting with the people at your table.”
