Five Little Things

Five Little Things I loved the week of December 1, 2023: dough, burgers, bespoke shoes, and more!

Five Little Things

Hi, everyone! It’s the first week of December, and while the month has just started, I’m feeling the holiday crunch. My elf duties are never-ending! But I am doing my best to take things easy after being sick last week. I’m happy to report that after a terrible case of vertigo, I am slowly feeling more and more like myself. I’ve even been to the gym a couple of times! I hope you are taking care of yourself and your health, too.

Here are Five Little Things I loved this week:

1. Dough

It doesn’t matter if it’s pie dough, puff pastry dough, or cookie dough – I’ve just been obsessed with all things dough this week! I shared the most comforting Ham Pot Pie recipe this week, which uses a simple puff pastry dough (a freezer staple!). Then there’s the Cranberry Hand Pies I want to make with extra cranberry sauce. And since I will be hosting the annual cookie exchange with my dearest OG Bay Area bloggers next week, I’m dreaming up some new cookies to make and share! Some previous favorites included Dorie Greenspan’s World Peace Cookies, Alfajores, and Coconut Shortbread Cookies, so stay tuned for this year’s pick!

2. A Virtual Field Trip to Mexico

I can’t remember if I shared with you the story of the teacher who transformed her first-grade classroom into an airport and plane to take a mock trip to Mexico, but when Southwest Airlines heard about it, they created a real virtual field trip at their maintenance hangar and headquarters in Dallas! This time, they boarded a real plane, heard an announcement from a real crew, and when they disembarked, there was even a mariachi band to “welcome” them!

3. It Takes a Village…to Sign

This article is a few years old, but when a two-year-old deaf little girl is blessed with a neighborhood that learns sign language to communicate with her, the world becomes a happier place.

4. Bespoke Shoes

As someone who loves shoes and finds the perfect fit ever so challenging, this video on the process of crafting bespoke shoes is utterly fascinating.

5. 100 Years of Burgers

Tonight, we had a big burger craving, so I stopped by our local In-N-Out. So good! This video cooks through 100 year of burger history, so if you’re a burger lover, this is for you.

Stay joyful!
